In Memory of David Joy, MAS Fellow and Electron Microscopy Legend

It is with great sadness that MAS learned of the recent passing of David Joy.

Professor David Joy had recently retired after 30 years’ service at the University of Tennessee and Oak Ridge National Laboratory, ORNL. He served as a president of MAS and was part of the inaugural MAS Fellow “Legends” class for “outstanding leadership and sustained contributions to all aspects of scanning electron microscopy (e.g., high-resolution imaging, electron detectors, electron channeling contrast, magnetic contrast) and analytical electron microscopy (e.g., X-ray and electron energy-loss spectrometry).”

More information on his life and achievements, written on the occasion of receiving the Peter Duncumb Award, can be found here: https://the-mas.org/awards/peter-duncumb-award/2010-david-joy/
